Limehouse Basin
Report on the historical evolution of this important 16th century
commercial and shipbuilding center, the expansion of the district
in Georgian times, and finally the development of the 19th century
docks. The extension of the Regent's Canal to Limehouse (1820) and
the building of The London and Blackwell Railway link from Docklands
to Fenchurch Street Station (1838) had an unprecedented effect upon
the area. Modern transport links provided developers with the opportunity
to enhance the distinctive historical character of Limehouse.
